Ocumeda and the Swiss health insurer KPT are entering into a new partnership intended to further improve access to preventive eye care. Effective immediately, the Ocumeda Eye Check-Up is part of KPT’s benefits list in the “Early Detection and Diagnostics” area of the Pulse supplementary insurance.

The Ocumeda Eye Check-Up can currently be carried out in Switzerland at around 50 optician locations. KPT policyholders with Pulse Top or Pulse Premium supplementary insurance can submit the invoice to their insurer and, in accordance with the usual insurance terms and conditions, receive reimbursement of up to 75% of the costs.

Headquartered in Bern, KPT is one of the ten largest health insurers in Switzerland, with around 500,000 policyholders. The company stands for modern and reliable insurance services and, with innovations such as the digital insurance card and Doctorchat, has provided important early momentum for digitalization in healthcare.

“We are very pleased about the collaboration with KPT, which is driving innovation in healthcare just as consistently as we are,” says Dr. Benedikt Wiechers, Managing Director of Ocumeda. “Together, we are bringing essential preventive eye care closer to people in Switzerland.”

The Ocumeda Eye Check-Up is based on a hybrid care approach: specially trained professionals carry out measurements using modern devices at more than 50 Swiss optician stores. A network of Swiss ophthalmologists then evaluates the data digitally and issues the patient a findings report with clear recommendations for action. In the event of abnormalities, Ocumeda actively supports patients in finding appointments for further ophthalmological assessment.

The partnership between Ocumeda and KPT is intended to further facilitate access to preventive eye care and provide new momentum in prevention.

ABOUT OCUMEDA

Ocumeda is one of the leading tele-ophthalmology platforms in Europe. Ocumeda has made it its mission to prevent vision loss and blindness in millions of people. The company was founded by an interdisciplinary team led by renowned Swiss ophthalmologists who were repeatedly confronted with patients whose serious eye diseases were often diagnosed too late—with the result that vision loss could no longer be prevented. This observation was the impetus for founding Ocumeda, with the goal of making preventive eye care accessible to everyone. To date, Ocumeda has already examined more than 450,000 people and has a network of more than 800 optical specialist stores and ophthalmologists.
