Munich, January 16, 2026
Ocumeda, one of the leading tele-ophthalmology platforms in Europe and a provider of medical eye care in the optical business, is consistently expanding its service portfolio. At opti 2026, the company is presenting three new products that enable opticians to further strengthen their role as the first point of contact for eye health – from preventive care and diagnosis to coordinated follow-up treatment.Eye Check-Up Plus – for advanced medical assessment of the eye
Eye Check-Up Plus – for an extended medical assessment of the eye
With its established Eye Check-Up, Ocumeda already enables opticians to offer medical eye care directly in their stores. The new Eye Check-Up Plus now expands this service to include examination of the anterior segment of the eye, complementing the existing assessment of the fundus. In addition to fundus images, health data, and other measurements, images of the anterior segment of the eye and the eye lens can now also be included in the medical findings of ophthalmologists. A total of five additional anatomical regions are assessed: eyelids, conjunctiva, cornea, iris, and eye lens.
The expanded examination enables the additional detection of abnormalities, such as opacities, eyelid malpositions, or pterygium, which might remain undetected in a non-medical examination. This provides a more comprehensive overall picture of the eye. Opticians are free to choose which services they want to offer their customers in their stores—an upgrade is possible at any time and is technically seamless. The Eye Check-Up Plus offers the opportunity for further differentiation and expansion of the service portfolio with a holistic, medically sound preventive care concept.
Ocumeda Care Network – for local care networks and better follow-up treatment
With the Care Network, Ocumeda is also expanding its range of follow-up care services, especially for customers with abnormal findings. In addition to the already established appointment support, the platform now offers opticians the opportunity to actively integrate existing partnerships with regional ophthalmologists into their services. This enables opticians to support their customers in promptly referring them for medical treatment. This creates local care networks that simplify and accelerate appointment processes, strengthen local cooperation, and improve care for customers in the long term. Opticians and their customers can already benefit from Ocumeda's broad network of ophthalmologists.
Ocumeda Empower – empowering opticians as the first point of contact for medical eye care
In order to strengthen preventive care services in the optical industry in the long term, Ocumeda also invests specifically in the further development of partner opticians. Ocumeda Empower combines, among other things, a comprehensive range of training and continuing education courses through the Ocumeda Academy, high-quality marketing materials for online and offline channels, practical support for optimal customer service and employee motivation, and automated re-invitations to customers at the recommended preventive care intervals. In addition, there are individual consulting and coaching formats for successfully establishing preventive care services in the business. The aim is to enable opticians to provide their customers with expert advice on eye health issues and to actively integrate preventive care into the consultation process.
An integrated approach to modern eye care
With Eye Check-Up Plus, the Ocumeda Care Network, and Ocumeda Empower, Ocumeda is pursuing a clear goal: to make high-quality medical eye care holistic, accessible, and connectes—right at the local optician. At opti 2026, Ocumeda will show how opticians can further expand their central role in prevention while making a measurable contribution to better eye care.
ABOUT OCUMEDA
Ocumeda is one of Europe's leading tele-ophthalmology platforms. Ocumeda's mission is to prevent vision loss and blindness in millions of people. The company was founded by an interdisciplinary team of renowned ophthalmologists who were repeatedly confronted with patients whose serious eye diseases were often diagnosed too late, with the result that vision loss was no longer preventable. This observation was the impetus for the founding of Ocumeda, with the goal of making eye care accessible to all. To date, Ocumeda has already examined around 350,000 patients and has a network of more than 800 opticians and ophthalmologists.
